Handsworth Recreation Ground, Sheffield

Client: Sheffield City Council
Date: 2007
Contractor: English Landscapes

Appointed as CDMC by Sheffield City Council on a rolling programme, Jenkins Design Services worked very closely with our client, in an advisory capacity, and the Landscape Architect, throughout the design stage. We were able to identify potential risks, design them out of the scheme and implement controlled measures, resulting in no reportable incidents throughout the duration of the project.

Handsworth Recreation Ground was a run down, tired public open space, located within a residential area. This site has been transformed by the introduction of a new adopted pedestrian footpath and cycleway through the site, contoured earthworks forming adventure play areas with vibrant bespoke play equipment, new Multi Use Games Area and upgraded existing recreational facilities. Plus, various sculptures, boulder seating and climbing walls, community planted gardens, including a sensory garden and perimeter fence.
